My dog, Matilda, has been dealing with incontinence again. Strike that. She’s been experiencing it; I’ve been dealing with it. She’s getting better about it though. Now, as soon as she experiences a little dribble, she asks to go outside. Earlier in the week, she wouldn’t realize what was happening until it was over. I’ve changed the sheets on my bed six times this week.
We go outside a lot more often now, including in the middle of the night and in the wee hours of the morning. It’s those 3:30 a.m. outings that are really grating on my nerves. It’s difficult for me to get back to sleep once we’ve been outside, and when I lose sleep, the next day usually isn’t so great. But today, when she woke me up at 3:30, and again at 6:00, I was so awake that I decided to go to the early service at church.
The service was supposed to start at 7:30, but it didn’t start until 7:40. We sang a bunch of songs, heard the sermon, took communion and we were out of there by 8:30. It was awesome! After church, I went to my favorite spot for breakfast and then went to the grocery store. I was home by 9:30. It was so nice to have the rest of the day to do whatever I wanted.
I normally utter all of the curse words under my breath like Yosemite Sam when Matilda wakes me up early. Today, as odd as it sounds, I’m thankful for Matilda’s incontinence (that’s not to say that I like it or that I hope it continues).
